short story reflection
Why Don’t You Dance?
by Raymond Carver
His side, her side.
The desk was pushed against the garage door
Everything goes," said the man.
"Why don't you dance?"
Weeks later, she said: "The guy was about middle-aged.
All his things right there
in his yard. No lie. We got real pissed and danced. In the
driveway. Oh, my God. Don't
laugh. He played us these records. Look at this
record-player. The old guy give it to us. and all these crappy records. Will
you look at this shit?"
questions
1.
1.What
kind of details does Carver choose to describe the “place?” he describes the
people and the environment. He doesn’t directly describe the mood but it is set
in the beginning of the story.
He
uses almost basic descriptions however the way he words them makes you think in
order fallowing the story. He makes you think about the authors porous.
2.
2.What
do the following passages tell you about the place?
“The girl sat on the bed. She pushed off her shoes and lay back. She thought she could see a star.”
“The girl sat on the bed. She pushed off her shoes and lay back. She thought she could see a star.”
It is close to night and
the sky is open to were you can see the stars or almost. I’m assuming that the
light pollution is making it harder to do so.
“Lights came on in the houses up and down the street.”
“Lights came on in the houses up and down the street.”
It is getting late and dark out also that his lights are not
turning on and they are still outside. They are in a neighborhood.
3. 3.Now look at the passages
that you chose. How do they talk about the place? Why are they important or
unimportant?
The
passages I chose talk about the mood or help set the mood. How the characters reacted to the moment.

evaluation criteria: group project
Criteria: Group Movie Project
Describe your role in the production of the class movie. How did your contribution make things more efficient? How did you help make the movie better? What specific contributions did you make? Did you go above and beyond, or simply show up? Be honest.
i contributed to this film with ideas along with everyone in my group. I also was a main actor which was a little different than what i normally do.i tried to help as far as doing what the " assistant director" asked me to do to help thing move along. i also helped with the montage as far as filming and editing with a smaller team.
Describe one or more things you learned about the writing process that you did not know before working on this project.
i didn't know that you have different smaller groups edit scenes separately. however i already knew how to work with a big group and how to get things done with organization. i noticed not everyone in the group was willing to give the movie all their effort all the time and that was different to the environment that i normally work in.
Describe one or more things you learned about the production (filming) process that you did not know before working on this project.
I learned the editing proses and how you work with small groups to edit a scene.
Describe one or more things you learned about the post-production (editing, sound, etc.) process that you did not know before working on this project.
i leaned the L cut last year during one of my last projects. Most of this was learning how to edit with a group and get everyones ideas in and work together to make the shot work.
Are you satisfied with the final product? Why or why not? Be honest.
Honestly i wish the group would have taken it more seriously and taken charge of their jobs. I also wish we could have been more productive with each day. I understood the purpose of the project and tried to take away as much of it as i could.
Suggest one improvement for next year’s class. What could I do to make it easier/better/more informative/more fun?
in my opinion you were very organized with everything. Maybe a sign up sheet for whose running what, when and make the person who ran it prior to, to explain to the new person their job and responsibilities.

what is creativity?
creativity is an idea or a feeling. its when you take normal everyday actions and you put your personality into it. its almost a person's identity. everyone has their own style from drawing or engineering. creativity shows up when a person is doing something they love to do and always wanna improve something or make it cooler.
creativity can also be referred with characteristics. such as thinking outside the box and approaching something from a different light. although most people think there is only creativity in things were the end result shows such. sometimes creativity is needed to get around small problems in projects such as working on a set piece or how to project a large sign onto a piece or ply wood and trace it. its problem solving and trouble shooting on the spot as well. there are many instances in theatre were something may go wrong during a performance and the stage manager has to fix it before the audience see's something has gone wrong.
